As a Crystal Palace fan, we’re 90% sure you’ve always wondered what Yohan Cabaye has in his bag when he travels around the country playing for the Eagles.
Well, today is your lucky day, as France Football have asked the man himself for their weekly magazine, with the France international revealing all about what he cannot live without on the road.
Of course, the Crystal Palace midfielder wouldn’t dare travel without a well stocked wash bag (“with all the basics: deodorant, cologne, toothpaste and toothbrush”), a t-shirt, some shorts and his well-polished New Balance boots.
Why well-polished? “During the week, they’re in the changing room. The day before a game and on D-Day, they’re with me. I like cleaning them, buffing them, putting a bit of polish on them. I’ve done that since I was a kid. I love football boots.”
A lot of travelling week in week out with Sam Allardyce and co. means a lot of free time, which leads to needing activities to keep you occupied.
Rest assured, Cabaye always comes prepared, with books and gadgets aplenty.
He explained: “I read quite a bit. I love personal development books, to improve my state of mind. I also like business stories, about people of have succeeded or those who have created things.
“I never go anywhere without my small speakers. I like having music in my room. In the changing room, however, I’m not in charge of the playlist. The team DJ is Wilfried Zaha. I also take my laptop with me at all times. I’m a big Football Manager player.”
As for his lucky charm, the Crystal Palace midfielder said: “Because I’m very religious, I always have a Bible on me. I have a small one that goes in my wash bag, and another, bigger one, in my bag”.
The former Newcastle midfielder has been a key man for the Eagles under both Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and picking up two assists.
