Crystal Palace would like Christian Benteke to remain at the club this summer and have offered him a new two-year deal to do so.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who say the ball is now in Benteke’s court over whether he remains at Selhurst Park.
Benteke is out of contract at Crystal Palace this summer, and it had appeared he would be leaving, with the club failing to get him signed to new terms.
He’s been heavily linked with a move to Turkey for several months, with all the big clubs thought to be keen on his signature.
A strong end to the season has changed perceptions, though, with it felt Crystal Palace could change tact and try to keep him.
That was something Benteke’s agent hinted at yesterday, telling Turkish media that they were still in talks with Crystal Palace about potentially staying.
HLN pick up on that today, stating that Palace ‘would like to continue’ with Benteke and have offered him a new two-year deal to make that happen.
They explain that Benteke is back in favour with those in charge at the club, who had tried to push him to West Bromwich Albion in the January transfer window.
He refused, and a return of six goals in his last ten games means he has now ‘more than proved his worth’.
As a result, he is suddenly part of their plans for the future once more, and a new deal has been offered, with the ball now in the striker’s court.
