In the section of rumours we didn’t expect to see to today, Ezequiel Schelotto to Crystal Palace will have been up there.

The Italy international left Brighton & Hove Albion back in August and has been without a club since, waiting for the right opportunity to come knocking.

According to Corriere Adriatico, that might have been US Sambenedettese in Serie C, whose ‘president Domenico Serafino was continuously in contact with the 31-year-old’ as well as with his agent ‘to try and close the circle on the negotiation’.

However, they point out ‘there might be some obstacle’ due to the fact Schelotto is of interest to Crystal Palace.

Why Roy Hodgson would want a right-back isn’t said, although it’s worth pointing out the 31-year-old is also capable of playing comfortably further up the pitch.

Despite the interest from the Eagles, Sambenedettese ‘do not lose heart and are willing to wait a few more days’.

Should that fail to produce anything and Schelotto returns to England, the Serie C side ‘will turn their attention to other objectives’.
