Samir Nasri was welcomed to Seville as a hero and he’s since done an awful lot to prove that wasn’t over the top. The local Sevilla media, and national Spanish media, have been raving about Nasri and what the Manchester City player has managed to bring to his new club.

One goal and one assist so far simply doesn’t tell the story of Nasri’s contribution and there have been double page spreads celebrating his ability and impact.

Nasri showed at both Manchester City and Arsenal that he’s a very talented footballer, but it’s also true to say that he hasn’t always made the most of his talent. Very public rows in France over the national team, and doubts raised about the player’s fitness have served to create a misfit image.

Leaving Manchester City on loan to be welcomed as a star man at Sevilla looked like a perfect solution for Nasri, and it’s so far gone that way.

Therefore it’s unfortunate Nasri looks to have picked up an injury. Seville newspaper Estadio Deportivo report that Nasri suffered a hamstring strain against Alaves at the weekend.

The Frenchman was unable to finish the match and Sevilla are awaiting medical tests to see how serious the issue is.

It’s a cruel blow, but an angle of optimism would be that it’s now the international break and, should scans reveal the mildest of hamstring injuries, then Nasri may well sit out the October 15th match against Leganes before returning for the Champions League.

Nasri’s loan being a successful one is important for Manchester City. There’s always the chance he could return and fight his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans. If that isn’t the case then Manchester City could look to cash in on a player who has a contract lasting until June 2019.
