Bournemouth striker Enes Ünal is set to miss the rest of the season and beyond after rupturing his cruciate ligament in training.

That’s according to Sports Digitale, who report that the striker is set for an extended period on the sidelines after picking up the injury.

In a short tweet, with the information coming via their journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, they report that Ünal’s cruciate ligament ruptured during Bournemouth training and he has now ‘ended the season’.

They provide no further details than that at this moment in time, with Sabuncuoğlu only providing the same details via his own account on X.

The injury will be a major blow to Bournemouth and Ünal, though, with Evanilson also set for an extended spell on the sidelines after picking up a metatarsal injury in the win over Everton.

That had set up Ünal, who has been out of the picture so far this season, for a run in the first team as the first-choice striker until the end of the season. Indeed, reports from Spain stated that all transfer talk, which has been building around the Turkish striker, had been put on hold because of Evanilson’s injury.

Now it seems fate has taken a cruel twist and left Ünal in a similar position, and Bournemouth perhaps needing to enter the market this month for a new striker.
