Southampton have received a blow with news coming from France that Sofiane Boufal has picked up an injury. SFR Sport are reporting that Boufal has been injured whilst away with Morocco and will return to Southampton.
The former Lille player is set to miss all of the Africa Cup of Nations, and is expected to be out for around three to four weeks. Whilst Southampton would have been without Boufal anyway, because of the international tournament, his injury is still a big disappointment.
Boufal arrived at Southampton recovering from a knee operation, and that probably helped Claude Puel sign him in the first place. One of Ligue 1’s most sparkling players last season, the operation was a setback but Southampton showed faith and completed the deal.
There’s no doubting Boufal’s talent and Southampton will hope he can return in a month and put all the injury issues behind him. It’s been a stop-start beginning to Premier League life for Boufal but there’s no reason he can’t end the season well, having already shown flashes of what a good player he is.
