Former Atlético Madrid assistant manager Germán Burgos has hailed Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa, labelling him a ‘creator of coaches’.
Bielsa is currently receiving widespread praise for the work he is doing at Leeds, having guided them back to the Premier League last year after a 16-year absence.
Since promotion, they have taken to life in the top flight like a duck to water, with their attractive pressing style earning rave reviews from all corners.
That style has seen them pick up 29 points from 21 games so far, with 15 points currently separating them from the relegation zone and only two from a place in the top half of the table.
It’s been a continuation of the fine work Bielsa has been doing with Leeds since his arrival there in 2018 and provided plenty of ammunition for those who believe the Argentine coach is among the top coaches in the game.
One man who believes that very much is Burgos, who played under Bielsa during his time as Argentina coach, and still raves about him to this day as a result.
“I would compare Bielsa with San Martín,” he told Radio Villa Trinidad, relayed by Bio-Bio Chile.
“I do not have doubts. He had to go outside the country to be recognized. There are many similarities.
“In the beginning, he had many problems, but later he proved that his work was worth it. Today he is recognized worldwide.
“He is a creator of coaches, starting with Tata Martino. Bielsa is the coach university. Those of Bielsa are genius rather than madness.
“Today, we are working on exercises that we did with him in 2000.”
