Earlier on Tuesday, we covered the latest from Italy regarding AS Roma’s interest in Diego Llorente, who wants to leave Leeds United, and the surprise news was the hope a new loan could be organised.

The Spaniard spent the second part of the season on loan with the Serie A club, and eventually found his way into José Mourinho’s team enough to impress.

So much so, in fact, that Roma want to keep him around, as does the Portuguese manager, but the €18m pre-agreed fee in the loan is causing problems, as explained by Gianluca Lengua on Radio Radio, relayed by Forza Roma.

Speaking about the Leeds defender, he made it clear that the intentions are there from everyone, but the reality is very different, adding some pessimism days after a lot of optimism.

He said: “Llorente is a good defender, but he costs a lot and I don’t think there is the possibility of taking him back on loan. In the six months in Rome, he did well, but the right to buy, set at €18m, was too high.”

The 29-year-old made 12 appearances in all competitions for Roma last season, which can be tallied onto the 59 he has made for Leeds since joining from Real Sociedad, having scored four goals for the Elland Road side along the way.
