Timo Werner has told Christopher Nkunku that he will have to learn to cope with the mental stresses of playing at Chelsea, just as he did.

Nkunku is set to join Chelsea in the summer, after they elected to pay his release clause early to get him ahead of the competition.

A move has not been officially announced by either club, but numerous reports have made it clear it is a done deal, with a recent report explaining that the final fee will only be known at the end of the season as there are performance based clauses involved.

Either way the Frenchman will be on his way to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and become Chelsea’s latest forward recruit in the process.

He will be hoping he fares better than Werner did in London, with the German moving to Chelsea in a €53m move in 2020 after impressing in the Bundesliga.

He arrived with a big reputation but struggled to live up to it, managing 23 goals and 21 assists in 89 games for the club before eventually returning to Leipzig this summer.

His spell in blue is widely seen as a failure and when asked what advice he would give Nkunku on the move, he says his focus would be on the mental aspect.

“Everyone has to have their own experience,” he told SportBILD.

“I had a very good first year, the second was so-so. I can tell him from positive and negative experiences, should he change.

“At a club like that, you don’t play like you did at RB Leipzig, because there’s even more competition – not only on a sporting level, but also on another level, in the mental area.

“You have to cope with that, and everyone has to find their own way. That’s why it’s the wrong approach to give others tips. Time has changed me a lot.”
