Leicester City made Youri Tielemans’ transfer permanent in July 2019, months after he initially joined them on loan from AS Monaco.
The midfielder has become a key figure under Brendan Rodgers, starting in 60 league matches since the start of last season.
Apart from his impressive performances, the 23-year-old has been directly involved in nine goals in the Premier League this term.
Earlier this week, the Belgium international said he is “enjoying” life at the King Power Stadium.
With a contract expiring in 2023, Leicester are believed to be keen on extending the former Anderlecht man’s contract. The player himself has now provided an update during an interview with Het Belang van Limburg.
Rodgers’ men are in a good position to qualify for next season’s Champions League. They are third in the table with 56 points, eight points ahead of fifth placed West Ham United, who have a game in hand.
Tielemans has seen improvement at Leicester, after having seen his side narrowly finish outside the top four last season.
“Yes, we still have nine matches left. So, we’ll be fighting to the end. So far, things are going well, although things only get really serious after the international break,” the Belgian explained.
“Last season we were also in the top four for a long time, but we fell out at the last minute. We must now show that we have learned our lesson. The focus is there.”
“There is no secret formula for that [Leicester’s good form]. For me, that’s one of the things we learned from last season. We now know better how to manage the good and bad moments. We had lost a lot of points after January. That has not happened to us this season. There is consistency, we have grown as a team.”
With Tielemans himself detailing the improvement he has seen at the club, it could help Leicester to convince him to sign an extension.
Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany returned to Anderlecht in 2019 and Inter Milan star Romelu Lukaku has also discussed moving back to his old club.
When asked if he will consider returning to Anderlecht, Tielemans said: “It would be great, but I can’t give a definitive answer to that right now. We will see what the future will bring.”
