Antonio Conte ‘wanted to question everyone’ at Tottenham and, with ‘hindsight’, may have not made the move to the club.
That’s according to former Italy players Francesco Baiano and Antonio Di Gennaro, who believe the Italian isn’t all that happy at Spurs.
Conte arrived at the club to much fanfare and excitement in November following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Italian coach had initially rejected Tottenham’s advances in the summer but was persuaded second time around to take up the reigns after assurances from Daniel Levy.
The hope was that he would make Tottenham competitive once again and get them competing for a place in the top four and possibly beyond that, with his track record of success at clubs, something many were excited about.
It has not been plain sailing in London, though, with Spurs’ performances having been very up and down under his leadership.
That’s caused great irritation for Conte, who has shown that in public, questioning the quality of the squad, Tottenham’s transfer business and even whether he is the right man to lead the club forwards.
It’s led to plenty of comments on the situation, and Baiano and Di Gennaro are the latest to share their thoughts on the matter.
“When you go up in the running, you have to be happy with the players you have in the squad,” Baiano told TuttoMercatoWeb.
“He alternates very good things with others less so, he has to build the team. With hindsight, it was better to stay at Inter.”
“The two winter signings of 65 million are not cheap at the economic level. I think with his latest statements, he wanted to question everyone,” added Di Gennaro.
