Moving to three at the back recently at Inter Milan, new manager Stefano Pioli is looking for a defensive midfielder, and a few options have presented themselves to him ahead of the transfer window.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea have offered John Obi Mikel around, and the Italian manager is considering making a move, even if the Nigerian isn’t his first option.
Yet to make an appearance under Antonio Conte this season at Stamford Bridge, the 29-year-old will be looking for a move in January to get some time on the pitch, and Serie A could be the perfect league for him to do that.
Pioli has highlighted Marseille’s Lassana Diarra as his number one target, and with the French side allegedly interested in Geoffrey Kondogbia, something could happen there.
Yet the easiest option remains the Chelsea midfielder, with the club apparently ready to let him leave on a free loan with a view to buy, but they’re not fussed if it’s compulsory or not, meaning Inter will have the choice to make the move permanent or not.
Mikel, at this point, appears to be plan B, but if Kondogbia refuses to return to Ligue 1, and Marseille make it clear they don’t want to weaken their squad midway through the season, plan B could quickly become plan A.
