A long-term target for Ajax Amsterdam over the past few transfer windows, Steven Bergwijn remains a Tottenham player for now.
The Dutch side made it very clear they wanted to to sign the winger, back when Marc Overmars was still in a role, but they never managed to meet Daniel Levy’s demands for the player.
Whether they return for another go in the summer remains to be seen, but there is another club who could overtake them if they aren’t careful: Milan.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who explain the Tottenham player has ‘appeared in the notebooks’ at San Siro for the summer.
What helps them in their desire to sign Bergwijn is that Antonio Conte ‘doesn’t consider him non-transferable’ and ‘a deal could be made as long as Fabio Paratici doesn’t decide to base himself on English prices’.
There’s a belief that €100m could be handed to Stefano Pioli and co. in the summer to bolster Milan’s squad, but €30m of those are already earmarked for Sven Botman.
We’ll have to see if they decide to spend any of the remaining €70m on Bergwijn, but the interest is there.
