Back in October it was reported repeatedly in Spain that Chelsea were very keen on Yannick Carrasco.
At the time the Belgian was in great form, with 6 goals and 2 assists in four games, along with three Man of the Match awards. Carrasco’s clause was €40m and Atletico wanted to renew, but that wasn’t putting off Antonio Conte and Chelsea, according to AS at the time.
Carrasco himself sounded keen on an Atletico stay: “I have a contract until 2020 and will hopefully stay for longer.”
Soon enough he had a contract until 2022, and a new release clause of €100m. It very much seemed like Carrasco would be a long term player for Diego Simeone, but El Confidencial say that’s not the case.
It’s claimed Simeone wants Carrasco sold, fed up of his attitude. The 23 year old is said to have had a blazing row with Oscar Ortega, a member of Simeone’s back room staff, and the Argentine has had enough.
Carrasco isn’t surrendering himself for the team in the way that Simeone expects, and El Confidencial say he’s instructed Atletico to sell.
That would hand the transfer on a plate to Conte and Chelsea, and Atletico will know they’ll have to give a huge discount on the player’s €100m clause, perhaps around half that amount.
Should Conte remain interested then it’s a good opportunity to get the player, but there surely must be concerns if Simeone has had enough.
