With Antonio Conte claiming he didn’t accept an offer from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer because he was still too emotionally involved with Inter Milan, that sounded like a sign of respect he wanted to show to his former club.
However, the reaction from some in the Italian media is completely the opposite, as the manager is now accused of doing it all for money.
Calcio Mercato today features a piece where they sarcastically rate his performance with a four out of ten, claiming his words do not correspond to the truth.
The website writes that it looks like Conte ‘makes fun of Inter and its fans’ when saying that, as in their opinion, his main aim was to guarantee the severance payment he’d get from the Nerazzurri.
Calcio Mercato writes that after receiving the money, Conte ‘did not hesitate to give up the club that had paid him 12 million a year because, according to him, were not competitive enough’.
To finish the heavy criticism towards the manager, their piece adds that he now ‘achieved his goal’, as he’ll also have a ‘princely’ salary at Spurs.
It would appear there’s some resentment in Italy towards the Tottenham manager.
