Marseille are hoping to close a deal to sign Swansea City forward Bafétimbi Gomis, according to claims in the French media. Gomis spent last season on loan with the Ligue 1 side, and impressed more than was expected.
L’Equipe report Marseille have maintained contact with Swansea City in the past few days, and the French club are hoping to sign Gomis on a two-year deal, plus an optional season. Both clubs will continue to hold talks next week, and one aspect that needs to be dealt with is Gomis’ wages.
The Swansea City player is hoping to be offered a salary similar to Dimitri Payet, who joined the club from West Ham United in January. Gomis was one of Marseille’s standout players last season and finished as the club’s top scorer, subsequently he will want to be on par with the highest earners.
It’s also been reported Galatasaray are still showing an interest in Gomis, and the Turkish side are prepared to offer the Frenchman €3.4m net.
The Turkish giants are still confident of getting a deal done with Swansea City, despite the Premier League side’s talks with Marseille.
