Santos have reportedly made their first contact for the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger from Manchester United. But it didn’t go very well.
The call was made by the club president Modesto Roma Jr, who considered the signing after the suggestion from their manager Dorival Junior.
So according to UOL, Modesto spoke to Manchester United in order to know the conditions of a deal. But the salary alone was enough to scare him off.
Schweinsteiger reportedly earns €8m per season. As Santos’ salary cap is €650k, and only few can break this rule, the deal is nearly impossible to happen.
Santos would need to ask Manchester United to pay for more than half of Schweinsteiger’s wages, added to some sponsorship deals for the other part.
And we’re speculating all this without considering the player’s wish, as he has just rejoined the squad and should be getting more minutes in the next few games.
The idea was never realistic, and Modesto Roma probably only called to practice his English a bit. After all, we all know that Schweinsteiger’s salary can be found on Google.
