Still trying to get to grips with his new Tottenham squad, Antonio Conte might not have managed to get Harry Kane to score, but he’s winning games.
That’s all the England international wants with Spurs, to ultimately be challenging for titles, and few can get their teams to do that as well as the Italian.
Whether that means Kane will stay at Tottenham beyond the current season remains to be seen, but there’s also no denying that the London club need another striker.
The problem here is they cannot just get anyone if their current star remains, because only one man will be the regular starter, leaving the other to sit on the bench and feed off the odd scrap of minutes used to rest the 28-year-old.
Thus, any move for Dušan Vlahovic, one of the biggest rising stars in football of late, would only take place if Kane left, which, for now, limits what Spurs can do.
That’s what Corriere Fiorentino hint at on Tuesday, explaining that the player’s agents recently travelled to London to ‘listen to Tottenham’s proposal’, which was ‘considered insufficient’.
As things stand, ‘it will not be easy to find a club that can meet’ the demands of Fiorentina, and ‘no one has given the feeling of being able to get close to the almost €80m that Rocco Commisso is asking for’, leaving the Italians somewhat unimpressed.
That could change if Kane was sold, since Daniel Levy and co. would have more disposal income, but right now, it’s a tough ask, especially when Vlahovic is in such good form and helping his club climb up the table, with them currently seventh in Serie A, one point behind fifth placed AS Roma in a Europa League spot.
