Links between West Ham’s Simone Zaza and Valencia have grown over the past few days, but perhaps the significance is that they’re now being led by the local Valencia media.

Last season, there were so many Zaza rumours in Italy that it just seemed like a conveyor belt of claims regarding the then Juventus player, so change to a Spanish lead of the story is all the more convincing.

Valencia regional newspaper Super Deporte report on Thursday that a ‘consensus’ has been reached at the club for the signing of Zaza.

Super Deporte state: ‘Zaza, as has been told to this newspaper, convinces everyone.’

Valencia mustn’t be ardent watchers of West Ham, or aren’t basing their conviction on on his loan there this season. It’s hard to put up a great argument for Zaza deserting the Hammers and setting La Liga on fire, but anything is possible and he was certainly good for Sassuolo, and his Juventus scoring record isn’t so bad, if brief.

Valencia have several financial issues they’d have to overcome to do a deal, and the €20m round figure may be a struggle for them, so a loan could be likelier.

One theme running through most of the reports is the assumption that Zaza could be leaving West Ham quickly. That of course may not be the case, especially if he starts scoring goals.

For a deal to happen, both West Ham and Juventus would have to be convinced, but if the Premier League club give up on the striker, then that probably wouldn’t be too hard.
