Chelsea’s search for a new goalkeeper has seen them identify Rennes’ Edouard Mendy as their main target.

Earlier today, L’Equipe reported the 28-year-old was left out of Friday’s training session, suggesting a transfer could be edging closer.

It was also stated the negotiations between the Blues and the Ligue 1 side were ‘stuck’ on Thursday because Chelsea have offered around €20m, whereas Rennes are looking at an additional €10m.

RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi reports Rennes have made a counter proposal after Chelsea made an offer for the Senegal international on Thursday.

The French club are now waiting for a response from Frank Lampard’s side as negotiations continue between two clubs. Bouhafsi further states Mendy has an agreement with Chelsea.

TuttoMercatoWeb, however, state otherwise. According to the Italian outlet, Rennes have accepted Chelsea’s offer of €25m plus €5m in bonuses.

It’s claimed Rennes are now looking for Mendy’s successor, and have looked at Granada’s Rui Silva and Dinamo Zagreb’s Dominik Livaković as targets.

Two conflicting reports on Chelsea’s chase for Mendy, but the player being pulled out of today’s training could be a hint that the deal is edging closer to being completed.
