Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci will miss the start of next season after picking up another yellow card at the weekend. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan with Empoli, but his future is uncertain with the Italian club following their relegation to Serie B on Sunday.
TMW have confirmed Bellusci has been hit with a one match ban by the Italian FA after he was cautioned for protesting with officials during the 2-1 defeat to Palermo. This was the Leeds United loanee’s 15th booking of the season, and subsequently he will have to sit out the first game of next season.
Even if Bellusci returns to Leeds United he will still have to serve the ban in the same way Paul Pogba had to following his move from Juventus to Manchester United last summer.
With Empoli dropping down to the second tier it’s unlikely Bellusci will remain with the Tuscan club. A €2m permanent move from Leeds United depended on the club staying in Serie A, and now the player may have to rethink his future.
