It was the Spanish media who broke the news this morning saying Edinson Cavani has chosen to stay at Manchester United for longer.
Journalist Moisés Llorens came up with the information that the striker is renewing his contract with the Red Devils, and his decision should be announced in the next week.
Now we get to see reports from Uruguay backing up the claims.
In a short tweet, ESPN journalist Diego Muñoz comes up to say ‘it’s confirmed’ that the striker will stay at Old Trafford.
He writes that Cavani ‘will continue’ at the club until the end of the 2021/22 season, and promises to bring more updates on ESPN Uruguay soon.
Reporter Rodrigo Romano is another one with similar information, saying the Uruguayan star is signing ‘today’ the one-year extension.
The striker’s current deal with the Red Devils expires this summer, and has an option for one more season.
So by guaranteeing his stay for only more year, he may be only triggering the clause.
In case that’s confirmed, that will be contrary to previous reports which said Manchester United had been offering Cavani a two-year contract, with an option for a further one.
