Earlier today, we covered a few reports about Antonio Conte and the possibility of him taking over at Manchester United if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

That has yet to happen, but Calciomercato.it claimed talks had been opened between the two parties, with the former Chelsea and Inter manager ‘evaluating’ the job.

This doesn’t mean he’ll say yes, but it does clearly show that there is interest there, which journalist Gianluigi Longari is also now pushing.

Taking to social media, the SportItalia reporter claimed it’s been ‘confirmed’ to him that Conte ‘is totally open to discuss Manchester United job’, but only if Solskjaer is sacked first.

In fact, the Old Trafford role would be his ‘first choice’ to return to the dugout, having been without a job since walking away from the San Siro role after helping them win Serie A.

That’s certainly positive news for all those who want to see the Norwegian sacked after the recent thrashing at the hands of arch rivals Liverpool.
