Things escalated pretty quickly for Tottenham Hotspur fans today.
Most of them were expecting Portuguese manager Paulo Fonseca to be soon announced as Spurs’ new manager, and after some problems with his agreement, the London side had to quickly turn to other targets.
Tottenham’s pursuit for Gennaro Gattuso was first reported in the morning, and now he’s already signed a deal with the club, according to the latest reports from Italy.
On RAI, journalist Ciro Venerato claims to have learned from sources that the manager is indeed on his way to London.
“Rino Gattuso has signed a two-year contract with the Tottenham, confirmations arrive from the London management,” said Venerato (via Napoli Magazine).
By ‘London management’, it’s likely that Fabio Paratici’s camp are being referred to, rather than Daniel Levy, and that’s why the leak from London has landed in Italy.
Gennaro Gattuso was expected to take charge of Fiorentina this summer. However, after a disagreement between him, the club’s management and his agent Jorge Mendes regarding their transfer plans, the deal was called off.
The former midfielder started his career as a manager at Sion back in 2013. He then took charge of Palermo, Pisa, Milan and Napoli, where he stayed until this summer.
Gattuso now joins his compatriot Paratici, who’s been appointed as Tottenham’s Managing Director of Football this summer.
