On Monday, the Scottish Sun published a story saying Sheffield Wednesday are keen on the loan signing of Ryan Gauld from Sporting. Now O Jogo can confirm the information, although the deal is not 100% certain to happen.

The Portuguese newspaper says the manager Jorge Jesus still wants to count on Ryan Gauld during the pre-season, and only after that will decide if the player is available for a loan or not.

Gauld signed from Dundee United for €2.75m, a huge fee from Sporting’s perspective, in 2014 and has been in the Portuguese club’s B team since then. The 20-year-old spoke recently of a concern that he wasn’t progressing as quickly as he’d hoped.

Gauld’s possible arrival at Sheffield Wednesday would be, of course, be more work from Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal, whose last job in Portugal was at Sporting.
