Barcelona are determined to sign Liverpool’s Luis Díaz this summer.
On Tuesday, Mundo Deportivo reported the 28-year-old is fighting to force an exit from Anfield. They also stated his agent has informed the Reds he wants to leave them for the La Liga winners.
Wednesday’s edition of Sport reports the Liverpool star is the main target for Barcelona to strengthen their attack.
They state Barca are ‘confident that the deal will go ahead’ for the forward. The fee the Merseyside club will request will determine whether they’ll sign him before the pre-season or if it’ll take longer.
Díaz has a contract lasting until 2028 and wants to leave Liverpool for the Blaugrana. They are well aware of this and have been in contact with his entourage for several weeks.
Liverpool have spent €40m on Jeremie Frimpong and are working on a big money [way over €100m] deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. Barca, as per the report, believe the Reds will need money.
The Colombia international wanting to join Barcelona and Liverpool’s financial needs give Barcelona optimism of securing his services.
Sport insists Hansi Flick’s side aren’t willing to meet the €80m requested by the English champions for the attacker. They are hoping for Díaz to make a ‘positive contribution in the coming weeks’, meaning put pressure on Liverpool to lower the price.
If they fail to sign Díaz, Barca will shift their focus to other targets, including Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, however, they’re confident they can sign the Liverpool player.
Whether it’s genuine confidence or misplaced optimism remains to be seen.
