Brighton and Hove Albion are ‘very close to an agreement’ for Inter Miami’s Diego Gómez, with a deal seeming likely once he’s done competing at the Olympics in Paris.
That’s according to ABC, Popular and RCC in Paraguay, who all provide various details on the player’s potential move to Brighton today.
ABC kick things off by saying Brighton are very close to an agreement with Inter Miami for Gómez, having ‘advanced’ their efforts to get him this summer.
They then cover comments from agent Pedro Aldave, who claims that Brighton have consulted him and their own player, Julio Enciso, about the man they’re getting.
“Both me and Julio Enciso were consulted by Brighton about Diego Gómez. Obviously, we told them what he is, a great player,” he told Cardinal Deportivo.
“On the physical and mental side, playing in the Premier League will not hurt him.”
ABC then say that the total operation would be worth $18m, although Inter Miami will only get half of this and the other 50% will go to his former club Libertad.
Popular then report that Brighton are ‘adjusting details’ on the move for the Paraguayan, which would be valued at more than €10m. They do state their information comes from English media on that front but add further comments from Aldave, this time to 730AM.
“Brighton have been following Diego Gómez for more than a year. They consulted me, Julio (Enciso) too. We told him that he is a very good player, he has been showing it,” he said.
RCC wrap things up with a more detailed look at the finances involved, reporting that Brighton have agreed to pay $18m for his signature.
According to them, the Seagulls will offer him a four-year contract and the contract was even scheduled to be signed on Monday as there is a ‘full agreement between all parties involved’.
The deal is being seen as a particularly good one for Libertad, who are set to receive approximately $5.5m for the operation, adding it to the £3m they initially secured from Inter Miami and leaving everyone happy.
