Juan Foyth has had just 294 minutes of La Liga action for Villarreal this season, following his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur.

He’d spent most of his time on the bench until mid December, when he started to be given 45 minutes of action in repeated matches. Foyth’s first 90 minutes of league action came on January 20th against Granada and that was clearly a step forward the player, however, he’s now picked up a muscle injury and there’s no clear return date.

The Tottenham owned man has an adductor issue, report Super Deporte, and it’s further explained he’s torn a muscle in the groin area.

For Villarreal, it’s a blow given they’ve had several muscle injuries recently and have been hit by Covid-19 quarantines. At Tottenham there will undoubtedly be concern given Foyth had finally started being more prominent at his loan club.

Before sending him out for the season, Spurs extended the defender’s contract until June 2023, partly to protect his value. Villarreal are thought to have a buying option, yet they’re not going to use that unless Foyth is an important player for them.

Missing his chance to kick on after the 90 minutes against Granada, Foyth will be hoping he can return and get enough minutes to convince the Spanish club. Tottenham, who don’t seem to see a future for the player with them, will be thinking likewise.
