Towards the end of the summer window, Barcelona showed interest in Dani Olmo, but were unable to take him away from RB Leipzig.
Back in October, Manchester United were dragged into the mix to sign the 23-year-old, and now their derby rivals, Manchester City, are named as one of the interested parties in the Spain international.
That’s according to today’s Sport and the report mainly focuses on why Barca will not bring the former academy player back to the club.
It’s claimed the Bundesliga man is open to the idea of joining the La Liga side, but the latter are not taking necessary steps for the transfer. The negotiations are ‘at a standstill’ as the Catalan club’s priority is to acquire City forward Ferran Torres’ services.
Barca’s previous sporting leaders, Eric Abidal and Javier Bordas, liked Olmo and were in favour of his arrival at the Camp Nou, but the situation has since changed due to the club’s poor economic conditions and Xavi Hernández’s appointment.
Sport say City have ‘appeared’ in the chase for the Leipzig player, and if Barca want Olmo, they ‘already know’ about the ‘tough competition’ they will face from Pep Guardiola’s side.
