As Peru’s U20 manager Gustavo Roverano was today interviewed by local outlet RPP, a player from Manchester City was one of the main subjects in the conversation.
The manager was asked to speak about Alexander Robertson, who was left out of the call-up, and it seems there’s a distant relationship between him and the national team.
Despite being part of England’s U16, U17 and U18 squads, the midfielder is still to have a country to officially play for. Born in Scotland with Peruvian heritage, he was expected to have a shot with the South American side.
Roverano, however, claims that Robertson is not yet ready to feature for them. Moreover, he revealed that there’s not been any contact between the national team and the Manchester City player recently.
“He still does not have the documents to be with us. Communication with him has been lost, the people of capture always had contact with him and with his father, we know that at the moment he was not playing now,” Roverano told RPP.
“Communication was cut off, we don’t know what really happened, he’s a player that interested me because of the videos I saw of him, because of the level where he is playing.”
“You have to keep in mind that Robertson can play for Scotland, Australia and England. He can have documents for Peru as well, he has several options. I don’t know what will have happened with the communication, but for this cycle we couldn’t have him.”
As said by Roverano, Robertson also has Australian nationality, and that’s where Manchester City got him from. He was playing for Hakoah Sydney when the English side brought him to their academy in December 2017.
The midfielder has been featuring for City’s youth ranks since then, and despite a short loan spell at Ross County last season, he’s currently part of the U21 squad.
