Aston Villa have identified Celta Vigo’s Óscar Mingueza as a target to strengthen their defence in the winter market.

On Monday, El Chiringuito stated Aston Villa want the right-back, who has a €20m release clause in a deal that lasts until 2026.

Earlier today, Mundo Deportivo reported the Villans have started negotiations and made advances in recent days.

Mundo seem to be getting excited because Barcelona, Mingueza’s former club, will receive 50% of the fee from his sale.

Another Spanish newspaper, La Voz de Galicia, provides Celta Vigo and the 25-year-old’s stance on a potential transfer.

The newspaper local to Celta Vigo states the Spanish club are calm about the whole situation amid claims of Aston Villa wanting to sign the defender.

That’s because the player, at this moment in time, hasn’t asked to leave, and if he were to request a transfer, Celta Vigo will refer to his €20m clause. This is affordable for Unai Emery’s side, but they need Mingueza’s approval to proceed with the operation.

La Voz de Galicia are confident the fullback is desperate for a move to Aston Villa because he’s ‘comfortable at club and in the city’ and so are his family.

Mingueza is a regular under manager Claudio Giráldez, making 17 La Liga appearances this season.
