Although most updates on Newcastle United’s chase for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata had been coming from Italy, we now get interesting claims being reported in the player’s home country.

Outlet El Tiempo features a story claiming there’s only ‘one detail’ separating the player from the St. James Park’s side.

It’s said there’s already an ‘affirmative answer’ from Zapata, who’s eager about featuring in the Premier League in the future. They claim that ‘close sources’ say there’s already an agreement with the player, who’d improve his wages from €2m to €6.5m a year.

Now this ‘detail’ is said to be the decision from Atalanta, as the negotiations are in the hands of club directors. They pick claims from Italy to say the Magpies first offered €30m and then made a second offer of €44m.

The talks between Newcastle and Atalanta continue to be detailed by the Italian media, who today came up with a solution mentioning the possibility of a loan with an option to buy.

The Serie A side, meanwhile, are said to be looking for a replacement for Zapata in case the move is confirmed, with Torino’s Andrea Belotti as their main option.
