Danny Blind insists his decision over whether to start Vincent Janssen or Bas Dost will not be influenced by the media.

Dost has scored 25 goals so far this season for Sporting, and his claim to start for the Dutch team would look strong than that of Janssen. The Tottenham player has recently broken his from-open-play duck but his record just can’t compare to Dost’s.

De Telegraaf quote Blind saying he won’t take the easy route and do what he believes the media want him to do, and the newspaper believe that’s a positive signal for Janssen’s chances.

But it would be wrong to say there’s a Dutch media campaign against Vincent Janssen, who is a very popular figure in the Netherlands. The Tottenham striker isn’t one to cause a fuss, Screen Shot 2017-03-22 at 12.32.19doesn’t act like a huge star, is always polite and clearly tries his best on the pitch.

In a time when there’s been much Dutch frustration with players causing trouble, believing they’re bigger deals than they actually are, and then not producing anyway, Janssen is a breath of fresh air.

As long as whoever Blind picks scores a goal, he’ll have made the right decision, and if the chosen one doesn’t score, the manager will be open to criticism.
