If AS Monaco get their way, then Chelsea and Arsenal are going to watch Aleksandr Golovin go to Ligue 1 instead of to their respective clubs.
According to the principality club’s vice-president Vadim Vasiliev, who spoke to Sport-Express in Russia, an offer has been made for the country’s World Cup star.
He said: “We made CSKA a proposal. I cannot say the amount of the transfer, but it is very worthy. The duration of the contract? Standard, five years.”
The businessman continued by explaining the move was best for all involved, allowing the attacking midfielder to continue developing in a better league before getting his big move to the top, just like a certain Kylian Mbappé.
Vasiliev even went as far as saying ‘everything should be decided in the coming days’, maybe as early as Monday, but that if it didn’t go through, they’d simply move on to their next target.
For Chelsea and Arsenal, who were still being linked with Golovin just last week, it means that if their interest is real, they’ll need to move fast.
As to what a ‘very worthy’ offer would be for CSKA Moscow, the Russian side were allegedly asking for around €30m, which isn’t exactly a huge amount, even for a club like Monaco, whose bank balance is relatively healthy after all those big sales.
Juventus were also linked alongside the Blues and the Gunners, but with the whole Cristiano Ronaldo fanfare, it’s understandable if they got distracted.
