Having arrived at The Amex from Ajax last summer, Kjell Scherpen went on to make only one appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion. That came in their FA Cup third round victory over West Bromwich Albion in January.
Later that month, the Seagulls allowed the goalkeeper to join Belgian side KV Oostende on a loan deal.
The 22-year-old has returned to Brighton, but is unlikely to be included in Graham Potter’s plans next season.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who explain the ‘intention’ is to allow the stopper go out on loan in the ongoing window and this time it will be for the full season.
It’s not made clear whether it is Brighton or the Netherlands U21 international’s ‘intention’ to move ‘elsewhere’ next season. It’s claimed clubs from his own country and England have ‘shown interest’ in Scherpen. For the latter, the interest is from the Championship.
VI does not provide any details of which clubs from these two leagues are looking to take the player on a loan deal. Scherpen has two years left on his contract at Brighton and a temporary transfer will help him get more minutes in the next campaign.
