Christian Eriksen spent much of the January transfer window being linked with a move away from Inter Milan.
As the market was opening the level of clubs linked with the player included Manchester United and PSG, but as the month drew on clubs including West Ham and Crystal Palace were brought into the picture.
Throughout, Tottenham Hotspur were also presented as a possibility. With uncertainty around Dele Alli’s situation, it was thought that if the Englishman moved to PSG, then Eriksen could replace him in Jose Mourinho’s squad.
Calciomercato take a look at the situation and say that Inter took a chance to get transfer revenge against Tottenham. After Daniel Levy plated hardball over the player in the previous winter window, refusing to give a discount on the €20m asking price, Inter decided they’d ask Spurs for a real outlay, dismissing approaches for a free, no obligation, loan move.
This is the latest Italian slant, yet sounds somewhat far fetched. Had Inter been keen to see the back of Eriksen it doesn’t make great sense to cut their nose off to spite their face, however much Levy may have frustrated them a year earlier.
Still, it’s a nice slant for Inter fans.
