Unable to convince Brendan Rodgers that he deserved a regular starting spot at Leicester City, Dennis Praet was sent to Torino on loan for the rest of the season.
Attached to this deal was a €15m option to buy, with hope that the Serie A side would be impressed enough with the Belgian to pay it, and while there is no denying that he has convinced them, they still aren’t prepared to cough up the money.
The reason for that is that the Leicester loanee has spent a large chunk of the season injured, as Corriere Torino point out, leading to ‘budgetary needs and reasons for prudence’ as to why they don’t want to invest in him permanently.
As things stand, the Serie A side’s ‘intention to date is to ask the English club to renew the agreement for another season’.
Over at Torino, ‘the esteem of the whole environment, from club to coach’ for the Leicester player ‘is not in doubt’, and they do want him to play for them next season.
They just don’t want to pay the pre-agreed fee for an injury prone player who might not complete a full season.
That being said, they do know he could be of use, and it’ll be up to them to convince Leicester that this is the right thing to do.
