Bayern Munich’s hope of signing a striker to back up Harry Kane in the summer transfer window is entirely dependent on Tottenham buying Mathys Tel.
That’s according to BILD, who report that while Bayern have an internal list of potential strikers, it’s all dependent on Tottenham.
They explain that Bayern don’t have the money to buy a striker to back up Kane unless Tottenham make the decision to exercise the €60m option in Tel’s loan deal.
The German giants are ‘caught in a Tel trap’ in their search for a new striker, with timing also an issue as if Tottenham take up the clause late, some of their targets may have moved elsewhere.
It means those in charge of the club don’t currently know if their plan to sign a striker is feasible. There’s been no indication of whether Tottenham will use the clause and pay for Tel. If they don’t, the Frenchman will be returning to Säbener Straße.
That is not something Bayern seemingly want to happen, but they’re waiting on Tottenham to make a choice, hoping they sign Tel to give them the money they need for the striker they want.
