AC Milan are increasingly convinced that they should spend the €28m needed to sign Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea permanently this summer.
Tomori has been on loan with the Italian giants since the summer; when it was made clear he was not a part of Frank Lampard’s plans.
Thus, he headed to Serie A in search of regular playing time, something he has found in the second half of the season, impressing in both Serie A and the Europa League in recent weeks.
His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed by the club, and several reports over the last few weeks have indicated they are increasingly tempted to activate the €28m purchase clause included in his loan deal.
Gazzetta dello Sport back that up today, stating that after Milan’s recent Europa League exit, the club have turned their attention to the future.
Their aim is to get back to the Champions League as soon as possible, and in order to stay there, there are three signings the club plan to make.
It’s stated that ‘the aim’ is to keep Tomori when his loan spell from Chelsea ends, while also signing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina and maybe Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow.
In terms of Tomori, its stated that he has ‘conquered’ the club and activating the €28m purchase clause to sign him permanently ‘seems more and more a necessary step’.
That’s because his performance ‘justifies’ such a ‘significant cost’ but also because if the club were to try to sign another 23-year-old with similar quality, he would cost even more.
Thus a move for Tomori makes sense, with Chelsea looking increasingly likely to lose him permanently this summer, if the player agrees to the permanent switch, of course.
