Earlier on Monday, it was made clear in France that despite what was being said in England regarding Hugo Ekitike, no deal had been struck with Stade de Reims for the striker.
Newcastle are reportedly keen on the 19-year-old, but a move was reportedly far from done, according to Nabil Djellit, who claimed €27m up front had been put forward, with bonuses that could take the deal above €40m.
Well, this stance has been backed up by RMC Sport, who make it clear that, as things stand, Reims have received ‘no offers’ for their starlet.
While talks are ‘continuing’, the Ligue 1 side have made it clear they want ‘€30m + €10m in achievable bonuses’ for Ekitike.
Reims are ‘firm on this point’, because they have ‘no reason to sell to balance the books at a club with a healthy financial situation’, compared to some others around France.
Therefore, Newcastle, if they did put forward something non-official of €27m + bonuses, will need to submit something better to convince the French side of letting Ekitike go in the coming hours.
