Wolves are on the verge of signing Daniel Podence from Olympiacos, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side recruiting one more Portuguese player for the squad.

The story has obviously made the news in Portugal, as has Wolves’ interest in Nelson Oliveira. Unlike with Podence, the AEK striker wouldn’t be a big investment for the Premier League club, and would simply be brought in as back-up to Raul Jimenez.

Patrick Cutrone returned to Italy this month, signing for Fiorentina, and Nuno clearly feels he needs another player in the position.

Despite claims of interest and offers, Wolves haven’t been able to agree a fee with AEK for Oliviera. They haven’t been too short, just a million or two away from his claimed clause, but have failed to agree a deal.

Wednesday evening brought claims of interest from Sporting, but Portuguese newspaper Record have moved to deny it.

They say there’s ‘zero’ interest from the Lisbon club.

This may well have been an effort to pressure Wolves into offering more, and quickly… but Record have scuppered it.
