Eintracht Frankfurt are hoping Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek can be the creative spark they need, with plans in place to use him in various positions in midfield.
That’s according to Frankfurter Rundschau and Sky Germany, who both cover the impending transfer today and why the Germans are moving for the midfielder.
Starting with the former, they say that the winter transfer window will be an ‘intense’ one for the Bundesliga side, with Van de Beek’s arrival from Manchester United one of plenty planned.
He’s a player the club have been keen on for a while, including manager Dino Toppmöller, who insisted on the weekend that “everyone knows that he is an outstanding footballer” ahead of the move being finalised.
According to FR, the hope at Frankfurt is that Van de Beek can give the club ‘more playful and creative moments’ in games where they have a lot of possession and opponents sit deep.
This is something the team has struggled with under Toppmöller, and the Manchester United man is considered the first piece of the puzzle to rectify it.
Sky, meanwhile, say the deal is in the final stages and an official announcement is planned for later this week once everything has been finalised.
According to them, Toppmöller is already eyeing up ways to use his new recruit and plans for the ‘flexible’ player to feature as a six, eight and ten depending on the game and circumstances.
That may be a little concerning for the Dutchman, who has bounced around various positions for Manchester United without impressing in any and should be wary of doing the same here in case it yields the same results.
On the flip side it appears unlike at Old Trafford there is confidence he can make a difference, and perhaps ensure that the €10m permanent clause is paid come the end of the season.
