Bayer Leverkusen are yet to make a concrete approach for Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega but do have him on their list.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that the German side have been following the 31-year-old for months.
He reports that Leverkusen are impressed by Ortega’s development at Manchester City, where he has deputised for Ederson since his arrival in July 2022.
The German champions are yet to commit to the idea of signing a new goalkeeper in the next two transfer windows but if there were to do so, Ortega would be an option for them.
There’s no mention of whether Manchester City would sanction a sale at this moment in time. The likelihood is that they wouldn’t, though, given Pep Guardiola has stated that Ortega would replace Ederson long-term if the Brazilian departs.
Plettenberg does say that Leverkusen would have trouble convincing Ortega anyway, as he wants to become the number one at the Etihad. He has a contract until 2026 so there is time for that to happen.
Either way, he’s on Leverkusen’s radar and if they do decide to change their goalkeeper, he will certainly be explored.
