It’s no secret that Manchester United have always had a soft spot for Milan Skriniar, currently one of the stars of the show at Inter.

The Slovakian defender has long been a target for the Red Devils, dating all the way back to the days of José Mourinho.

A transfer never took place, but with his contract expiring in 2023, there are worries he could be tempted elsewhere this summer if Inter don’t act quickly.

That’s why they are preparing a renewal for their important defender, who has played the most minutes (Handanovic aside) for the club this season, which Gazzetta dello Sport call the ‘Anti-Premier League’ plan.

It’s comprised of a new contract until 2026 to be offered at the end of the season, which, once signed, should be enough to give them ‘the strength to say no to the assaults’ of English clubs.

The problem with Inter these days is that ‘non-transferables do not exist’, but they have priorities they would like to keep, with Skriniar being one of them.

This means that regardless of what happens, a price will be set, with it made clear that ‘under the overall €55m spent a year ago by Tottenham for Romero of Atalanta’, no deal would be struck.

His growth has been such that he has become ‘one of the most appreciated players’ by the club’s owner, and has ‘grown enormously’ in the eyes of everyone, with just one yellow card picked up this year.

That’s why Inter ‘imagine the future with him’, but they need to move to ensure this happens ‘so as to not entice and ignite the fantasies of others even more’.

Despite the fact that Skriniar ‘has never shown a desire to leave’, Gazzetta explain that interest from Manchester United and others could ‘pollute’ their attempts to renew him.

Something to keep in mind, because no one thought that Romelu Lukaku would be sold last summer, but the right offer to both club and player did the trick, and with the Red Devils likely intent on pleasing their next manager, they could open their chequebook.

And we all know that Manchester United’s funds can be deep if needed.
