Over the past few days, claims from Portugal have reported about Aston Villa’s interest in Sporting’s Geny Catamo.
On Monday, A Bola stated the Lions have lowered his price from €60m to €30m and Aston Villa are dithering over paying this fee. They also indicated the Portuguese champions are refusing to lower the price further.
A day later, we covered claims from Portugal that Aston Villa have already made contacts with the winger. It was also stated Catamo knows the salary he’d earn if he were to move to Villa Park this summer.
Thursday’s edition of O Jogo mentions the Premier League club’s interest when covering the 24-year-old’s contract situation.
The Mozambique international left Amora for Sporting in 2021 and his former club still holds 75% of his rights. Sporting want to acquire the remaining percent of his rights and the report states the negotiations should speed up.
O Jogo report this is an ‘important operation’ for Sporting with a view to a future sale, mainly because Aston Villa want him.
It’s again pointed out Unai Emery’s side have made contact over a move for the attacker.
Catamo received state honours in his country and was received by Mozambique president, Daniel Chapo, reports A Bola.
“Geny Catamo is a living reflection of the Mozambican youth who believe in their dreams, work hard and achieve success through merit and determination. He deserves affection not only for the work he has done for the country in the national team, but also at Sporting. Thank you, Geny, for raising the name of our country beyond its borders and for honoring our flag,” he said.
The Aston Villa target has vowed to become an inspiration for youngsters in his country.
“It’s always good to return to my land, to my country, I just want to thank the Mozambican people, the more than 30 million inhabitants,” Catamo explained.
“I feel the strength and energy they have in me. I will continue to give my all and also try to help young people in their endeavours to achieve their dreams.”
