As Victor Lindelof to Manchester United seems to be one of the big stories of the winter market, we’re getting prepared to see the exaggerations from the Portuguese press about the transfer.
Record has an entire page about it today, but their information isn’t really convincing.
They say that Manchester United are very keen on having the defender in January, as the club officials have already told Benfica how far would they go for him.
Lindelof is currently negotiating a new contract, which will raise his release clause from €30m to €60m. But the player won’t sign it until his transfer situation is sorted.
So here comes the funny part: first, Record claims that Manchester United would accept to pay for more than the release clause, with no apparent reason why. They would do it as long as Benfica give them a discount in the €60m price.
Then, they say that the Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira won’t accept to negotiate the player until he signs a new deal, so there’s no way the player would leave for only €30m.
Well, it’s called release clause for a reason, so if United and Lindelof want the deal, they don’t really have to agree anything with Benfica.
But Record still believes that everyone will work to give the Portuguese club a few more millions. Just because they want them to.
