Thursday appears to be the moment the Italian press have been dreaming about and Liverpool fans have been dreading: Emre Can will be leaving Anfield on a free.
This is, at least, what Corriere dello Sport are reporting, claiming the Reds are finally waving the white flag and resigning themselves to the fact the Germany international will not be extending his stay on Merseyside beyond next year.
Jürgen Klopp admitted as much during his press conference when the Liverpool manager said the club would not budge on their offer, and now Juventus, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City will all fight to sign him for nothing in June.
Of course, if it came down to money alone, you would expect either the Bundesliga and Premier League leaders to have the advantage, but Corriere explain Juventus have a plan to trump everyone.
That plan appears to be Sami Khedira, already at Juventus, and the Serie A club are convinced either one of Emre Can or Leon Goretzka, also available to talk about a free come January, will wear the black and white shirt next season.
However, Corriere explain that he ‘won’t have to work a lot to convince the Reds’ talent to choose Turin over the other destinations.
As plans go, it seems to be a fairly weak one, but, then again, Juventus are the kings of the free transfer.
They know what they’re doing.
