When Flamengo and Manchester United reached a deal for the loan of Andreas Pereira and included a buying option of €20m, the clubs had of course no idea of how the midfielder would do in Brazil.
The 25-year-old even did great in his first few months, but ended up making a mistake in Copa Libertadores’ final which cost his side the title, and that obviously raised some doubts about his permanent stay at the Rio de Janeiro side.
English outlets have been reporting Flamengo’s talks with Manchester United regarding that buying option, and as a reaction to that, Youtuber Paparazzo Rubro Negro comes up to say it’s clear that the full amount won’t be paid.
“It’s obvious that Flamengo won’t pay €20m for Andreas Pereira,” says Paparazzo Rubro Negro.
“Flamengo won’t pay that much. If Flamengo do pay, I believe they’ll get at most to €6m to sign him permanently. I think that much, Flamengo can pay. €20m is a total trip, I don’t believe Flamengo would pay. I believe that’s why Flamengo are speaking to Manchester United to get to a middle ground.”
The truth is that the buying clause seemed to be too expensive from the start, because to trigger that, Flamengo would need to break their transfer record.
Their biggest purchase was made when they signed Gabigol at a time he’d just had a loan from Inter Milan where he scored 43 goals in one season.
Andreas had an impressive start, but is now back on being just a good player in the squad, and it now makes sense that Flamengo won’t get even close to the €20m next summer.
Now, it should be up to Manchester United to accept a lot less than that.
