Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is keen to return to Inter Milan, a year after leaving the San Siro for Stamford Bridge.
La Repubblica now states the striker wants to join the Serie A side ‘at all costs’ this summer.
The Nerazzurri’s chief, Giuseppe Marotta, was asked about the possibility of having both the Chelsea player and Paulo Dybala at the club next season.
“Dybala and Lukaku? At this moment we must not get caught up in anxiety and haste, Ausilio and Baccin have moved in advance and are doing well,” Marotta said, as quoted by La Repubblica.
“In this phase we need to combine professionalism and competence with creativity, there is not always the need to make big investments. I can say that the hard core of this team will remain and from this we will start again to face the 3-4 competitions that will see us protagonists next season with ambition.”
The report states the ‘impossible figures’ of the deal make the operation ‘unsustainable’ for the Italian club. Chelsea, who now have new owners, are ‘unwilling to bear’ losses for the 29-year-old.
It’s claimed that Thomas Tuchel’s side will consider an ‘onerous loan [around €23m] with a redemption obligation set at around €70m’. The player, for his part, is ready to reduce his salary from €12m net per year to €6m.
A meeting is scheduled between Lukaku’s lawyers and Inter leaders on Tuesday, to develop a strategy for the ‘Great Return’ of the frontman. The details of the salary would be discussed, but the ‘main thing’ is to ‘convince Chelsea’ .
La Repubblica state that Inter would be ‘willing to include’ Stefan de Vrij in the deal for Lukaku, but Chelsea’s request would ‘still not fall below €20m for the loan and €70m for redemption’.
