Three days ago, we covered claims from the Dutch press that PSV Eindhoven have shown interest in Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg as his profile fits what they are looking for this summer.

It was also reported the Eredivisie side could use the defender’s agent to try to bring the asking price down.

Eindhovens Dagblad, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, say PSV want to work on the deal for the Liverpool player once they complete signings of Couhaib Driouech and Ryan Flamingo.

Van den Berg hasn’t managed to cement a place at the Merseyside club and he was sent out on loan since the start of 2021/22 season.

The 23-year-old impressed during his loan spell at 1. FSV Mainz 05 last season, resulting in interest from other clubs, including the Dutch champions. His deal lasts until 2026 and Transfermarkt values him at €12m.

ED say Liverpool are requesting €20m for the centre-back and this is the ‘stumbling block’ for PSV. If the Reds were to bring the price down to €15m, ‘then it is probably possible’ for the Eindhoven club to sign Van den Berg.

PSV would face competition from the German club this summer. Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel has already stated his side want to buy the Dutchman, who has publicly stated he wants to leave Liverpool.
